How to Search the Panhandle Court Docket
The city offers no online case viewer or daily trial docket, so skip the broad web search and go straight to the clerk. Check the official city website for contact details. Read the court name and every number on the citation before you call. Panhandle Municipal Court handles city cases. A notice naming a justice court, Carson County Court, or the 100th District Court belongs with that court instead.
An identifier beats a common name. Keep the punctuation when you give the clerk the citation number, appearance date, and charge. Ask whether the payment link shows case status or only takes money. For a county court matter, re:SearchTX offers a second docket search route, though coverage varies and not every Panhandle filing or document appears there.
- Identify the exact court printed on the citation or notice.
- Copy the citation or cause number without changing its punctuation.
- Call Panhandle Municipal Court at 806-537-3517 ext. 3 for a city matter.
- Ask for the current setting, status, plea route, and copy procedure.
- If the court is county-level, use the Carson clerk or re:SearchTX and confirm the result.
Note: A payment screen only proves the court may accept a transaction. It is not a complete Panhandle docket sheet.
Panhandle Has Two Clerk Doors
Panhandle is Carson County's largest city and its county seat. That creates a distinction people miss. City Hall at #1 Main Street serves the municipal side. The courthouse at 501 Main Street serves the Carson District-County Clerk and the county courts. The buildings sit close together, but their records never swap.

County and District Court record route
Call the city court about a Panhandle citation or a municipal copy. Call the combined clerk about County Court or District Court cases. A municipal case does not become a District Clerk case just because both offices share a Panhandle address.
The Panhandle Municipal Court
Panhandle Municipal Court handles city ordinance violations and Class C criminal matters within its jurisdiction. Those are fine-only cases at the municipal level. Justice court traffic matters work differently, even when the stop happened near Panhandle. JP Precinct 2 may be the named court for a ticket outside the municipal lane. Its published number is 806-537-3722.
The city website and the Texas Office of Court Administration directory disagree on the current judge. The city staff page lists Rebecca Rusk. The current OCA directory lists Jean Anne Hardman at the same mailing address, phone, and court email. Both listings are dated snapshots. Confirm the presiding judge with the city before naming anyone on a filing or request. The conflict does not change the contact route. It does not change the need to verify a Panhandle court date either.
Panhandle Calendar Is Not the Docket
The city posts a community and event calendar. It also posts notices of regular and special council meetings. Entries there may show a title, date, time, and location. None of them are Panhandle Municipal Court case settings. A council date tells you nothing about an arraignment, pretrial conference, compliance setting, or trial date.
Calendar check: Use the official city calendar for city events. Use the citation and municipal court clerk for a Panhandle hearing date.
A conflict between dates? Call the Panhandle court. Ask whether the setting was reset, and get the new date, time, location, and setting type. Silence on the event calendar never means court was canceled.
Panhandle Court Dates and Settings
Read a Panhandle setting from the case record or confirm it with the municipal court. The city site publishes no daily case docket, date list, or result page. Bring the citation number when you call. If another court is named, call that court. Do not ask the city to interpret a county or justice setting.
| Date | The appearance or hearing date recorded for the Panhandle case. |
|---|---|
| Time | The clerk-confirmed time, which may differ from a general office schedule. |
| Location | The municipal court location stated by the city or citation. |
| Judge | The current presiding official, which should be confirmed because published listings conflict. |
| Setting Type | Appearance, plea, compliance, pretrial, or trial as the court describes it. |
A reset means the date moved. It does not mean the Panhandle case was dismissed. Ask whether written notice will follow and which date controls, then keep the staffer's name, the call date, and the case number in your notes.
Panhandle Municipal Counts Need Labels
The official FY2025 municipal activity report gives aggregate counts, not a list of people or citations. From September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2025, Panhandle began with 101 active criminal cases, reactivated 21, added 136, disposed of 141, made 4 inactive, and ended with 113 active. The displayed categories list no civil or administrative activity.
The report population was 2,315. A separate additional-activity extract used 2,452, while the 2020 Census listed 2,378 residents. Keep each vintage and label attached to its figure. No total can confirm one Panhandle citation or hearing.
Panhandle Traffic Tickets
A Panhandle ticket that names Municipal Court belongs with the city court. Call ext. 3 and give the clerk the citation number. Ask about the appearance deadline. Ask about plea options, the current amount, and whether that ticket can be handled online. The city pages offer no citation search and no payment portal. Plan on working with the clerk by phone.
A citation naming JP Precinct 2 goes to that justice court instead. Where an officer wrote the ticket does not settle which court holds it. Paying a Panhandle traffic ticket counts as a plea and can close the case. That works out differently from contesting it. So get the court's current instructions before sending money. For Carson-wide details, see the traffic court records material.
Panhandle Judge Listing Conflict
Two official directories can disagree when one is updated later than the other. That happened here: the Panhandle city staff directory and the statewide OCA directory list different municipal judges. The safe move is to confirm the current judicial officer directly with the court rather than trust either listing alone.
- Use the court name and cause number to identify the case.
- Call the published city court number for the current judge.
- Do not direct a filing to a person based only on an undated page.
- Keep the directory URL and the date checked in research notes.
For any Panhandle setting, copy, or filing question, the court clerk remains the practical contact. A judge-name mismatch is never a reason to miss a deadline printed on your citation.
Where Panhandle Cases End Up
City ordinance and Class C cases stay in Panhandle Municipal Court. An appeal or transfer creates a new record. Justice court matters remain with the named JP. County-level criminal, probate, juvenile, civil, and district matters go to their assigned Carson court. The combined clerk handles that routing. Felonies and major district matters sit with the 100th District Court.
Docket flow: Panhandle Municipal Court › Carson County Courts › District Court
When a matter moves, ask the municipal clerk for the receiving court and the new cause number. From there, use the Carson County court docket route for county-level access. re:SearchTX can help with an integrated case or hearing, but the originating clerk is still the best place to verify a date or get a certified copy.
Panhandle Copies Start With Custody
A docket entry and a filed document are not the same thing. The docket is the list of events. A complaint, order, judgment, or certified disposition sits behind that list. It exists as an actual record. Ask Panhandle Municipal Court for any city-case item. Ask whether the clerk can provide a plain or certified copy. The court publishes no copy request form and no copy fee schedule.
- Docket
- The register of events, filings, status changes, and settings in a case.
- Certified copy
- A copy authenticated by the lawful custodian.
- Disposition
- The recorded outcome of a charge or case.
- Reset
- A move from one scheduled date to another.
For a county or district case, send the same request to the combined Carson clerk. Name the record you want and give the exact cause number. Ask about cost and delivery before you order.
Public Access to Panhandle Court Records
Texas does not treat court case records like an ordinary city public-information request. Case records follow common law, statutes, and court rules. The procedures of the holding court also apply. Nonjudicial city records are different. The Texas Public Information Act still covers those. It is not a way around a sealed or confidential case file.
Key rules:
Texas judiciary access policy separates case records, judicial records, and ordinary governmental records.
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 governs covered public information and recognizes the judiciary distinction.
Texas Family Code Chapter 58 restricts access to juvenile records.
Sealed, juvenile, and confidential material may simply be off limits. Ask the Panhandle clerk for the public portion of a file. Ask also for the procedure if access is denied. For a city administrative record, ask a different question. Which city officer takes the request? For a Panhandle court case, start with the municipal clerk.
Panhandle Search Failure Checklist
A failed online search does not mean a Panhandle case is absent. The city posts no public docket viewer, and statewide coverage varies by court, case type, date, and confidentiality rules. Most search failures trace to the wrong custodian, a number typed differently, or a record that needs direct clerk contact.
- Recheck the court name on the source document.
- Try the exact cause number, then ask whether a partial number works.
- Confirm spelling and any prior name used in the case.
- Ask whether the case was transferred, appealed, sealed, or archived.
- Request the receiving cause number if the matter moved.
Keep city and county searches separate. That habit keeps a Panhandle municipal citation from being mistaken for a county clerk file, and it gives the clerk enough detail to actually help.
Panhandle Homepage Confirms the Split
The official Panhandle homepage gives the municipal court contact information and the city calendar.

That page confirms the city contact route. Its event calendar is not a Panhandle case docket or hearing list, though.
